Who We Are

ConstructlyTools was built by a team of homeowners and project planners who kept running into the same problem: existing construction calculators were either too basic, too complicated, or locked behind paywalls and sign-up forms. We built ConstructlyTools to fill that gap — a free platform that gives homeowners, DIYers, and contractors the same calculation tools professionals use, explained in plain language with real-world examples and current pricing data. Every calculator is researched and reviewed before publishing. We verify each formula against industry standards, cross-reference outputs against real contractor quotes, and write enough surrounding content that a first-time DIYer can actually understand what they're looking at. Our pricing data comes from RSMeans unit cost data, HomeAdvisor/Angi completed project surveys, and NAHB construction cost benchmarks — updated annually. Every tool on ConstructlyTools is completely free, with no signup, no subscription, and no hidden fees.

We built ConstructlyTools to fill that gap — a free, beginner-friendly platform that gives homeowners, DIYers, and contractors the same calculation tools professionals use, explained in plain language with real-world examples and up-to-date pricing data.

Every calculator on this site is built and reviewed by our team before publishing. We don't publish a calculator until we've verified the formula against industry standards, checked the output against real contractor quotes, and written enough surrounding content that a first-time DIYer can actually understand what they're looking at.

Construction & DIY Research Team
Our team researches each calculator topic thoroughly — reviewing IRC building codes, RSMeans cost data, NAHB benchmarks, and real contractor pricing databases before writing a single line of content. Every formula is verified against industry standards and cross-referenced with actual project quotes. Every page is reviewed for accuracy before publishing and updated annually with current pricing data.

Why We Built ConstructlyTools

Construction planning involves a lot of math — and getting it wrong is expensive. Under-ordering concrete for a slab means a second delivery fee and a cold joint in your pour. Over-ordering lumber wastes hundreds of dollars. Misjudging footing depth in a freeze-thaw climate means a deck that heaves and leans within three years.

Most free calculators online give you a number — but no context. They don't tell you why the number is what it is, what assumptions were made, when to order more, or when the standard formula doesn't apply to your situation.

ConstructlyTools was built to fix that. Every calculator comes with:

  • A clear methodology section — explaining the exact formula used and where it comes from
  • Real-world examples — worked calculations for typical project sizes with full material lists
  • 2026 pricing data — sourced from contractor quotes, HomeAdvisor, RSMeans, and retail suppliers
  • Common mistakes section — the errors that cost homeowners money and time
  • Hidden costs — the items that show up in the final invoice but aren't in the initial estimate
💡 Our Design Principle

Every page on ConstructlyTools should be useful to someone standing in a lumber yard or hardware store with a question. If the answer requires a login, a subscription, or an engineering degree to understand — we haven't done our job.

How We Research & Price Our Calculators

Accurate cost estimates require current, verifiable data — not guesses. Here's exactly where our pricing and formulas come from:

Formula Sources

IRC (International Residential Code) Building code requirements for stairs, footings, framing, handrails, and structural minimums
ICPI (Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute) Paver installation standards, waste factors, base system specifications
ACI (American Concrete Institute) Concrete mix ratios, bag volume standards, curing requirements
NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Labor and material benchmarks for residential construction
AWC (American Wood Council) Span tables, lumber grades, framing standards
ARMA (Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association) Shingle coverage, waste factors, underlayment requirements

Pricing Data Sources

RSMeans Cost Data Industry-standard contractor labor and material unit costs, updated annually
HomeAdvisor & Angi Real contractor bid data from completed residential projects across the US
Home Depot & Lowe's Current retail pricing for materials across multiple US markets
Regional Lumber Yards Wholesale and contractor pricing for lumber, concrete, and landscaping materials
⚠️ Important Transparency Note

All cost estimates on ConstructlyTools are ranges based on national average US pricing at the 20th to 80th percentile of real market data. They exclude outlier low bids (incomplete scope) and outlier high bids (premium markets). Prices in the Northeast, Pacific Coast, and major metros typically run 25–50% higher than our stated ranges. Always get 3 contractor quotes for any project over $1,000.

Our Content Standards

Every Calculator Must Pass These Checks Before Publishing

  • Formula verification — the calculation formula is checked against the relevant industry standard (IRC, ACI, ICPI, etc.) and verified against manual calculation
  • Real-world example — at least one worked example with a realistic project size and complete material list
  • Pricing range verification — cost ranges are checked against current retail and contractor pricing in at least 3 US markets
  • Code compliance check — where applicable, code minimums and permit requirements are noted clearly
  • Common mistakes section — the 3–5 errors that most commonly cause project failures or budget overruns for that specific topic
  • Annual update — pricing data is reviewed annually and updated to reflect current market conditions

What We Don't Do

  • We don't publish calculators with single-point estimates — all cost outputs are ranges reflecting real market variance
  • We don't recommend specific contractors, products, or brands in exchange for payment
  • We don't claim our estimates replace professional quotes — every cost estimator explicitly recommends getting 3 contractor bids
  • We don't collect personal data beyond what's necessary to operate the site — see our Privacy Policy
✅ Always Estimates — Never Guarantees

Every result from ConstructlyTools is an estimate for planning purposes. Actual material quantities depend on exact site conditions, waste from your specific cuts, and supplier packaging. Actual costs depend on your local market, contractor, and project scope. Use our tools to build your budget and material list — then verify with a supplier quote or contractor bid before purchasing.
